How the number and type of primary school meals affect food variety and dietary diversity?

School meals should encourage a varied and diverse diet, since children may eat up to three at school per day. The aim of this study was assess food variety dietary diversity among primary regarding the number type meals. Dietary records for non-consecutive days were used estimate score (FVS) (DDS) 195 (52.3% boys) aged 8-9 years from schools in city Zagreb. For analysis, divided into 5 groups according consumed: non-consumers (23.1%), breakfast consumers (30.3%), lunch (5.6%), (13.3%), breakfast, snack (27.7%). had an average FVS 14.3 (12.6 - 16.7) DDS 5.7 (5.0 6.0). group with highest frequency consumption starchy staple (99.9% children), while legumes, seeds, nuts consumed least frequently (15.4%). moderately correlated (r = 0.313, p < 0.001) weakly 0.230, 0.02) DDS. In addition, who ate or lunch, significantly higher (p 0.027) compared fewer no meal.
